ABSTRACT

Sustainability has become a top priority and the tourism industry, given its significant impact on the environment and local communities, has a crucial role to play in promoting sustainability. Choice architecture offers a set of tools that enhance the effectiveness of sustainability practices for tourists. The systematic literature review of 72 primary studies identifies the most effective choice architecture-related sustainability practices and the tourism sectors where these are most applicable, highlighting the importance of sustainable practices in tourism, identifying also underrepresented tools of choice architecture and areas of tourism that have not been studied sufficiently.
